4 Things I Learned From NFG’s Book How To YOLO Wisely
If you’re a fan of our series Simply Finance TV then you’re probably familiar with the inspiring multi-hyphenate gal, Nikki Jurado or Nomad Finance Girl. Among many things, she is an author, financial advisor, speaker, entrepreneur, and trader! We had the pleasure of having her on Simply Finance TV’s episode on Simplifying Forex and Personal Finance, you can watch it here in case you missed it!
In 2020 she published her book “How To Yolo Wisely: A Step by Step Money Guide for People Who Wanna Enjoy Life”. Her book is a treasure trove of accessible, relatable, and (most importantly) actionable insights that we’re eager to share with you.
Here are 4 things I learned from How To Yolo Wisely!
Wherever your money goes you’ll find where your real priorities lie. Your expenses can either affirm your priorities or reveal the scathing truth that your actions have not been congruent with the goals and priorities you’ve set.
Let’s do a quick exercise!
Thoroughly review your expenses in the last three months and, at the same time, keep your priorities in mind. Then ask yourself the following questions:
After reflecting on these, take the necessary steps to align your expenses with your priorities in the following months.
Looking for an actionable way to shift from having a scarcity mindset to an abundance mindset? Allocate 5% of your income to your Give Jar. In “Step Two: Manage Your Money” NFG introduces the Money Jar System. A system where you split your income into six jars and one of the jars is the Give Jar.
That 5% of your income in your Give Jar will not only help or empower a friend or a community in need it will also give you more confidence in your finances. True abundance isn’t measured by wealth, it is rooted in generosity.
A lot of people dismiss the Law of Attraction as “woo woo” simply because they find it difficult to believe that intentions and manifestations can have a big influence on one’s success. NFG opposes this view by stating that “... the law of attraction is beyond wishful and positive thinking. In fact, you have your Reticular Activation System to thank for turning your “good vibes” into actuality.” Yup, a part of your brain receives all your thoughts (negative or positive) and your intentions, filters them and sends them over to your hypothalamus which mediates your behaviour.
This finally proves that having a good mindset and leveraging the law of attraction can do wonders for you and your goals.
NFG has spoken! These are the four non-negotiables to YOLO-ing wisely.

Having all four (1) guarantees that your future and your finances are secure and (2) enables you to enjoy your money in the present.
We are so used to getting financial advice where we end up feeling guilty and anxious about our future because we are being judged by how we’re spending our present. In my opinion, this is the liberating truth that the book How To Yolo Wisely presents to its reader: No, you don’t have to choose between your present and your future anymore! NFG is a living breathing example that you can enjoy both.
