Real Talk! It’s About Time You Get Health Insurance

Updated on May 18, 2020

Ladies, say it with me now—

“I am prioritizing my wellbeing!”
“I deserve a health insurance plan that will safeguard my health and my finances!”
“I am a good investment!”

Yesss! That’s what we love to hear.

Take it from us, you need a comprehensive health insurance plan in your life! If you’re not sold to the idea of getting your own private health insurance, we’ve made a list of pros that will hopefully change your mind.

Pros of Getting Health Insurance

  1. It’s Basically A Safety Net

Getting health insurance will ensure that your finances will be secure when an unexpected illness occurs.

  2. Covered and Recovered!

After being hospitalized or treated—more often than not—you don’t have to pay for anything because you’re completely covered!

  3. You’ll Be Healthy--Body, Mind, … and Wallet!

With health insurance, you’ll avoid getting broke after just making a full recovery!

↳ ‘Cause If you find yourself broke, you’re going to resort to draining your savings or even going into debt to get by. Big no-no!

  4. You’ll Be Insured For Critical Illnesses!

If you get diagnosed with a critical illness, you’ll be granted a lump sum that will ensure that you’ll be able to finance all the expensive medical costs you will incur for the various procedures and treatments you’ll be undergoing.

P.S. We didn’t make a list of cons … because there aren’t any! 😂

To be honest, it really shouldn’t be a question of “Hmmm, should I get health insurance?” (because yes, you should!) but rather, which ones should you consider getting. Believe it or not, a great percentage of Filipinos are not adequately insured. Mostly because people mistakenly pick the most affordable insurance plan they can find instead of looking into what they actually need.  When it comes to health insurance coverage is key. Practice due diligence, the health insurance plan you have now may not be enough.

Let us break it down for you. There are three types of medical insurance you can avail of—PhilHealth, HMO, and Health Insurance.

  1. PhilHealth

PhilHealth is the universal health coverage for all Filipinos. It is compulsory for all employed Filipinos to be granted a PhilHealth membership upon employment. Half of the monthly fee is covered by the employer while the other half is deducted from the employee’s salary. PhilHealth offers financial assistance however it is limited to a certain amount and will vary according to the disease.

  2. HMO

HMO or Health Maintenance Organizations is a type of health insurance wherein you get access to a network of doctors and other healthcare providers who are under contract to the HMO.  The beauty of having an HMO card is that you only need to present it to any of the accredited hospitals or clinics of your HMO and you’ll receive the care you need without having to pay cash upfront.

  3. Health Insurance Plan

A private health insurance plan offers a lot more benefits and coverage to the insured. You gain access to more comprehensive private healthcare networks and higher compensation for serious illnesses. A private health insurance plan may be considerably more expensive than an HMO but the superior coverage will relieve you from being financially burdened by hospital bills. Just think of it this way, paying a monthly premium will ensure that whenever you get sick you won’t have any trouble getting the healthcare you need and your finances will be secure.

It’s also important to note that most private health insurance plans offer coverage for critical illnesses. This is a clincher for most especially since treatment for critical illnesses calls for higher medical costs.
